The Story Of The Log Cabin
The log cabin standing near the schoolhouse was built in 1882 by Jens Ellefson. Jens had emigrated from Kragero, Norway along with his wife, Sigrid and daughter, Carrie. Their homestead was located 1/4 mile south to southwest of the schoolhouse on what is now 62nd Street
Moving The Cabin
The old house had to be torn down in 2021 in order to build the new log home now located on the site. Demolition experts carefully removed all the rooms of the house, leaving only the cabin, which was at the center of the house.
In September of 2023, Tom Barthel and several strong family members helped carefully break up the cabin into quarters, haul it 1/4 mile north to the schoolhouse site, and reassembled it. They returned a year later to put a tin roof above the cabin to preserve it for future generations.
